Not long now!

It's nearly time - just a few more sleeps before Christmas.

But how many of us 'arty-crafty' types have made presents instead of buying them? Between us we must have the skills to produce anything, I know I have failed - I've been a buyer this year. My excuse is a lack of time. Working full time is not conducive to creative crafting.

There are are extra bonus points on offer for all those who have created presents for Christmas, and we want to see the evidence!

Let's see what you've made. Send a picture, or upload some to Flickr, or wherever you store them, and send me the link. Maybe you've recorded it on video and posted it to YouTube. We want to see that, too.

Here's wishing you all a merry Christmas, and a happy and healthy New Year.

That's it!

The next newsletter will be out in January. In the mean time I get to put my feet up … like! The preparation begins now.

What would be good is feedback from you, our lovely members. What did you like about the last edition? What didn't you like?

The only way we can improve is by listening to the consumer.

While you are about it, how about submitting an article? A project, a special technique, some useful tips, or maybe just tell us about yourself and your painting.

Whatever - we would love to hear from you. Email the editor.

NEC, our stand

Some of the projects in the newsletter have been taught at recent shows.  In this photograph are some of the great helpers at the BADFA stand at the NEC.  You will notice that acrylic painting appeals to a wide age range - there is a grandma and grandson in the same mini class!

... and the CDs are in the post!

The CD Version - Autumn 2013
I went to the Post Office first thing and handed a bag of envelopes to the cashier. She happily took my money, but did say she would stick on the stamps for me.

I bet she's glad they are self-adhesive these days!

Hopefully, all you CD-ers will have them by the middle of the week. If anyone is still short of a copy by next weekend, let me know.

The Autumn edition is out!

Those who have subscribed to the email link to the newsletter should have it queued up in their inbox at this very instant!

If you, or any member you know has subscribed, and not received their copy please let me know.

The rest of you will have to be patient. The CDs will be going in to the post later in the week, and once they have gone I will upload a copy to the Yahoo! forum, BADFAOn-line.

I hope you enjoy the read and find inspiration within its virtual, electronic pages.

My next project is ...

I've been shopping for supplies for my next project. I bought some 8mm annealed copper tubing, electric wiring, galvanised wire mesh, and some brass plumbing fittings.

The project will include embossed card, paint techniques, texture medium, and probably quite a bit of mess!

Can you guess what I'm up to?

I'll take photos as I go and put an article together for the next newsletter - that's the one in January. It is too late for this one.

Have a guess in the comments below - or suggest ways you might use my supplies.

Newsletter Autumn 2013

The next edition if the newsletter, The Decorative Folk Artist, is entering the final production stage.

Once all the Is and Ts have been dotted and crossed, it will be on its way. E-version first, then CDs and lastly added to the member files on the Yahoo! BadfaOn-line forum.

This is the last chance to update me with your new email address, if you think you have changed it since the last issue.

I'll let you know when it is sent. In the mean time, do try to contain yourself!

Wet weekend

Looks like it will be a wet and miserable weekend here in England. Have you got any painting projects planned? Something creative to keep you from wandering around in the rain?

I'm hoping to make a start on a steampunk project on Sunday but it depends on what else Julie has planned - of course I will need to catch up with the MotoGP race in Japan, but you ladies wouldn't understand ...

Comment below and let us know what you will be doing.

Members' contact details

Members,
Please make sure we have your correct email address. Recently I sent an email to the members, and I felt like Elvis when some were 'returned to sender - address unknown'.

So if you've got a new email address you'd like to give me, or maybe the one I have isn't spelled correctly, let me know and I'll put things right.

At least three of you will have missed out on the special message.

See the Contacts page for the email address.

Thanks

BADFAblog is under way

I created this blog back in June, a bit of an experiment. But now we (The Committee) have met and discussed, we think that a blog has a far fresher and attractive feel to it. We hope you do, too.

This is a work-in-progress, so bits will change as we go along - hopefully for the better. We'd love to get your comments, so feel free to let us know what you think.

More posts to follow soon.

BADFA Blogging

To open the new blog, I'd like to pass our thanks to Priscilla Hauser, the First Lady of Decorative Painting. She led our annual convention (31/5/13 to 2/6/13) in Swindon, UK, with two days of her wonderful roses, and one day of gorgeous poppy.

Full details will be reported in the newsletter and on our web site, badfa.org, just as soon as I can get over there and get it done!

Find out about the history of decorative and folk art, and BADFA, on our 'About BADFA...' page
